Settling the Ghost is an exhibition addressing the horizons, limitations, and temporality of the virtual realm. By underlining the capacity of the Internet to function as a vehicle for connecting dispersed communities in terms of both art and geography, this project aims to utilize the global reach of the Internet in order to collapse it into an unexpected place – a rural village in Northeast Wisconsin. As an autonomous, artist-led initiative, this exhibition presents an alternative to institutional or commercial modes of display.
While Young Space is primarily an online platform, art remains a personal and cultural expression that cannot be fully appreciated online; this exhibition conveys the aesthetic of Young Space to a physical space: Standard Projects. While the exhibition is mounted in the “real world,” it will also be shared online in the form of an online gallery, further questioning and blurring the role of the Internet and geography in contemporary art.
Young Space issued a call for art in Spring 2017, which attracted 136 submissions from 9 countries and across the United States, and from students and graduates of distinguished MFA programs such as Cranbrook Academy of Art, Edinburgh College of Art, Pratt Institute, Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers, The Slade College of Art, and many more.

About Standard Projects
Standard Projects began in early 2014 when owner, artist Claire Abitz, returned home to Wisconsin after living in Brooklyn, NY, and purchased the former Hortonville police station. She has since renovated it into a live-work space featuring studios, a wood shop, a recording studio and music venue, and an artist residency – continuously a work in progress.
