Happy Holidays! Can I give you a hug?
I’ve been running this platform (on and off) for going on three years now, starting when I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2014, and lately here in northeast Wisconsin. I’d all but given up on this project by last summer because I didn’t know what to write about; I felt cut off from the work and artists who had initially inspired this project in the UK. Big plans kept falling through, and perhaps the word “defeated” is apt to describe how I was starting to feel.
This site in its current form has only been going since September, when it was, so to speak, reborn. I’m blown away at the positive response I’ve received so far. By emphasizing artists’ voices, I again found my own. So normally I’d be totally into one of those cliche “best of” lists that are so hot this time of year, but a recap of only four months is kinda lame. So instead I’m going to get really sappy and just throw out a big, slobbery THANK YOU. I’m hugging you right now, I hope that’s not weird.
So I am unbelievably grateful for being able to connect with so many local folks whose ideas and creativity push my own, while at the same time being able to connect with artists working globally. The beauty of this project is that I while I am currently in the snowy north, hanging out in my hometown of 12,000 people while I prepare for projects in the coming year, I can still chat with an artist in New Zealand about her painting process, or talk about the challenges of finding affordable studio space in London, or share recaps of international exchange projects between artist-run spaces halfway around the world. I could hardly nerd out more.
I can’t wait to see what 2017 brings. And on that note, I’m always open to feedback. I want to know what you like about this site, and what you perhaps don’t. Or maybe you just want to say hi! Drop me a line. Or leave a comment below!
Happy Holidays!! (Again!) Hugs upon hugs. <3
